Lawrence Patrick O’Hern, 82, of West Caldwell, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

Born in Morristown in 1934, he grew up in East Hanover and lived in West Caldwell since 1959.

He was a patriarch, and dedicated his life to his family in every way. He loved living in the Township of West Caldwell, and was known by many people in the community. He was also a member of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church.

He was hard working and loyal to his employers, Earl Williams and Jensen & Koenner, and finished his career with Anthony Ferraiuolo & Sons of Whippany, NJ, as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 825.

He is predeceased by his parents, John O’Hern and Anna Martin O’Hern; his siblings: Frieda, John, Tommy, Anna, Raymond and Bill; and son-in-law, Joe Pirrello.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Bernice E. (nee-Aromando), whom he loved and cherished for his entire life; his loving children: Nancy Pirrello, Larry Jr. and his wife Barbara Zolli, Cathy and her husband Ed Jansen, John and his wife Leanne Alber, Sandy, and Tom and his wife Edite Borges; proud grandfather to Michele, Michael, Nicole, Matthew, Patrick, Tommy Jr., Sam, Madeline, and his Great-Grandchildren: Colin, Serafina, Julia and Joseph; sister Ellen Munro and brother Kenneth.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11:00a.m. on Monday March 13, 2017 at the Par-Troy Funeral Home. 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany (973) 887-3235. Interment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 2:00-4:00pm & 7:00-9:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department (wcvfd.org) and West Essex First Aid Squad (P.O. Box 662, West Caldwell, NJ 07006), would be appreciated.
