Robert John Veit, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 18, 2018.

Born January 6, 1932 in Newark to Joseph and Elizabeth (Hamburger) Veit.

He grew up in Newark, lived in Parsippany and in Livingston from 1973 until 2011 before moving to Lake Hopatcong.

Robert proudly served in the United States Navy before being honorably discharged.

He was a service engineer for Office Machine Service Company in Bloomfield and Leitz, Inc. in Rockleigh before retiring in 1999.

Robert had a love of history, was a world traveler, avid reader, slide photographer and a connoisseur of both cookies and iced tea. He was a Knight of Columbus for 67 years and served as Grand Knight of the Parsippany Council 3680.

He was a past member of Our Lady-Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland.

Robert was predeceased by his brothers: Joseph and Richard and his sister, Doris.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Frances (nee-Ortu); daughter, Elizabeth of Lake Hopatcong; his son, Stephen and his wife Erica of Randolph; and his grandchildren Jesse, Genevieve and Hudson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 11:00am from the Par-Troy Funeral Home. 95 Parsippany Rd, Parsippany. Interment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2:00-6:00pm at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions should be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
