Obituaries » Emilia Grippo DiMarco
Emilia Grippo DiMarco passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 85 years old.
Emilia was born in Pescopagano, Italy. She was one of six children and grew up on a family farm in Stonara, Italy. She developed a passion for dressmaking and learned this specialized craft from the Convent of Nuns in Teora, Italy. She married Pietro DiMarco on October 29, 1959, and they immigrated to New York in 1963.
Emilia was a loving and dedicated Homemaker to her family. She was happiest at home surrounded by family and friends. No party was too big. Her presence always brought incredible food, wine and stories. One of Emilia’s true gifts was bringing people together, she cooked and entertained for an army no matter who or how many came into her home. She was a very creative and talented dressmaker—sewing hundreds of wedding dresses for her home business. Emilia had an incredible eye for detail, specializing in ornate beading and embroidery.
Emilia embodied the selfless devotion of a true matriarch, which formed the foundation for the passions in her life. She embraced the joy of life through cooking, gardening, creativity, dancing, and singing with unwavering love for those around her. Emilia always thought about others before herself: insisting on packing lunches for travelers, gifting her sewing masterpieces to loved ones, and cooking pasta (no matter how late the hour). She was one of the warmest and kindest souls—working day and night for others. Emilia was deeply spiritual and guided in life by her faith. Inspired by Padre Pio and St. Jude, she prayed for those around her and said the rosary, daily. Her remarkable spirit inspired many, and she will be dearly missed.
She was predeceased by her grandson, Nicholas Peter Jones.
Survivors include: her husband, Pietro A.; her son, Antonio and his wife, Cheryl; her daughters: Lucia DiMarco-Jones and her husband, Jeff, Filomena Foti and her husband, Gene and Anna Maria Monte and her husband, Peter; her brother, Luciano Grippo; her sisters: Giuseppina Toglia and Antonietta Farese; her 12 grandchildren: Amanda, Julianna, Austin, Natalie, Andrew, Nina, Marcella, Peter, Anthony, Sophia, Olivia and John Luca; and her 1 great granddaughter, Violet Jones.
