Valerie Jean (nee-Shaw) Rochelle, age 57, passed away on February 24, 2018 at her home.
She was born in Syosset, N.Y. and was raised in her family home in Huntington, N.Y. where she spent 18 years. She married Randy in 1987, and moved into their starter home in Islip, N.Y. where they lived for 6 years. They then moved to New Jersey in 1993 where Val absolutely loved her home in Parsippany within the Puddingstone development. A corporate relocation moved them to Winchester, VA during mid 2015.
Val earned her BA in Social Science and was a certified Special Education teacher. She taught pre-K, kindergarten, and special education at various early learning schools on Long Island. Val loved little kids. She paused working to have and raise her family. During the last years in New Jersey, she had begun a return as a lunch aide at Par-Troy Hills / Littleton Elementary.
Val enjoyed working on puzzles, knitting and stitching. She loved old-style, Victorian era mysteries and would always solve the clues before Sherlock Holmes. Goldfinches and chipmunks around her bird feeders had no better friend. She was an avid outdoor camper for decades, almost since birth. Val dedicated much energy to travel soccer and varsity sports with her son Paul and tap dancing plus FCCLA with her daughter Cassandra.
She is predeceased by her parents, Ken and Eleanor Shaw.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Randy; her son, Paul; her daughter, Cassandra; her brothers: Stephen and Philip; and her nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation: Private.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to The Seeing Eye, 10 Washington Valley Rd, Morristown, NJ 07960.
