Joseph Ernest Salinari, age 97, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Care One at Morris in Parsippany with his loving daughters by his side.
He was born in Morristown on March 29, 1920 to Ernest and Frances Locantore Salinari from Montiscaglioso, Italy. He met and married Sophie Birosak of Whippany in 1941, and moved to Whippany in 1942 where he was a life-long resident.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force from June 23, 1942 until being honorably discharged as a Sergeant on August 31, 1945. He served overseas and was stationed in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Joseph belonged to the Third Photographic Technical Squadron, 12th Air Force.
He started his own business, Salinari Home Improvements, which consisted of selling and installing to local builders. For the greater part of his life, he enjoyed an illustrious career in real estate as Broker of Salinari Real Estate, guiding hundreds of happy families to new homes.
Joseph was elected President of the Hanover Twp. Police Reserves in 1953, was a Past Commander of the VFW Post #5351 in Whippany, of the American Legion Post #155. He was, also, an usher at Our Lady of Mercy Church for 62 years and the Captain of the Honor Guard for 20 years.
He loved playing all sports: football, baseball, and basketball and enjoyed playing golf, bowling and ping-pong, as well. He started the Hanover Twp. Little League and the Hanover Twp. Seniors’ Bowling League. In May of 1994, he bowled his first 700 Series after 40 years, and in 1999 he bowled a 290. He then took up golf and got his only hole-in-one on August 5, 1999. These were two side achievements of which he was proud.
Joseph will be sadly missed yet lovingly remembered by his family and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sophie on 2/28/1998; and his daughter, Patricia Salinari in November 2007.
Survivors include his daughters: Joanne T. Cleffi, Sharon M.
