Sister Nazarene

Maria Maddalena Giulia, daughter of Domenico Norcia and M. Luisa Diminno, Born on March 4, 1921 in Greci (Avenlino) Italy. Entered religion on Setptember 27, 1933 in Naples, Italy. Stayed in the Motherhouse from 1933 to 1940 as aspirant doing domestic work. In 1940 she went to Marcianise to study until 1943 and graduated in June of the same year. In July of 1943 she left Marcianise and went to Sorrento in the Novitiate where she received the habit on July 15, 1944 by receiving the name of Sr. Nazarena of St. Joseph. Emitted temporary vows on July 16, 1945. In 1946 she went to Rome to teach. From Rome she spent some time in Manocalzati also teaching while she was waiting for the visa to come to the U.S.A. She left Naples, Italy on May 14, 1947. Arrived in America on May 26, 1947, where she was stationed in Jersey City where she was assigned to domestic work until January 4, 1948. Then went to New York to study the English language where she stayed until August 20, 1948. From there she went to Newark. In the same year she emitted perpetual vows on August 28, 1948. Her stay in Newark was from August 1948 until July 25, 1950. During this time obedience assigned her to take care of the children in the Nursery. On that very same day she left Newark to come to Logansport, Indiana where she was stationed. On October 26, 1950 she was appointed Mistress of Novices.
In 1963 they closed the house in Logansport Indiana and came back to New Jersey to Parsippany. July 26, 1965, she was missioned to the house of Montville as a Superior and also to teach. In 1973 she was assigned to teach in the Bronx for a year, returning to St. Pius X in Montville, she continued her studies, graduating from Seton Hall University. In 1993 after the death of Mother AnnMaria she was appointed delegate at interim, until the election of the new superior. In 1997 she was sent to Nutley, New Jersey where she was involved with after school children up to 2004. She was still residing in Nutley, New Jersey with helping whenever help is needed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered at 9:00 am on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Saint Joseph Chapel. 499 Park Road, Parsippany. Interment: Saint Elizabeth Cemetery, Parsippany. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 2:00 – 4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Saint Joseph Chapel.
