Deacon David Vincent Collins, Age 70, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center.

He was born in Newark and grew up in West Orange before moving to Parsippany 41 years ago.

David earned his Bachelor degree in Classical Languages from Seton Hall University and studied Theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary for four years.

David was ordained a Deacon on June 10, 1989. He served at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church in Parsippany for 14 years, where he directed Confirmation and Youth Ministry, and he has been at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel in Cedar Knolls for the past 14 years. His recent ministries included director of RCIA (adult conversion to the Catholic Church) and funeral ministry, among others.

He worked as a social worker for four years, and then a food salesman and marketer for Campbellā€™s Soup in Camden and other food brokerages. He retired in December, 2013.

David was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Spitzer in 1993.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Marjory A. (nee-Rothman); his sons: Russell and his wife Jennifer, Stephen, and his girlfriend, Jennifer, and James; his brother, George and his wife Carole; and his sister, Margaret Shelley. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, 75 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to follow at 7 p.m. Cremation: Private. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to United for Puerto Rico – to support the victims of Hurricane Maria, Learning Ally, or the charity of your choice.
