Grace Wessbecher died the 14th of November, 2021 of cancer due to ulcerative colitis. Born in the Bronx, her father, Frank, was rescued by a midwife, and as an electrical engineer worked on a lunar module. Her mother raised seven children and rescued her first dog at age 83.
Grace was a dramatist, writing screen plays, stage plays, and short fiction. Her script, Pasteurized, was a National Merit quarter finalist. Her script, Calvin, was a two-time Austin Second Rounder. Her play, Two Day’s Folly, was a co-grantprize winner in the Religious One Act Competition at Catholic University and published in an anthology. Her short fiction is listed on World Cat. She worked at the Daily Record writing in the newsroom from 2000 to 2008, Sensory Spectrum in Chatham, and AIT Glass in Rockaway. She was caregiver of her parents from 1997 to 2015.
Grace graduated Parsippany Hills High School as a National Merit Scholar (1984), Rutgers College (BA English, 1988) as Phi Beta Kappa, and Hollins University, Roanoke, Virginia (MFA Screenwriting, 2008).
Survived by six siblings, 13 nieces and nephews, and 4 grand nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her Aunt Dorothy, aunts and uncles, and her dog, Abbey of Downton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian Burial 11:00am Tuesday November 30, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel 90 Whippany Road, Whippany. Interment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
