Joan Lucy D’Ambola passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. She was 93.

Joan was born on December 31, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York to Michael & Virginia Petruccelli. She grew up in Newark with her 3 brother and 3 sisters.

In 1950, she married Richard D’Ambola and settled in East Orange. In 1968, Joan and her husband, Richard opened Rickie’s Pizzeria in East Orange. In 1970, Richard passed away and Joan continued running the business for the next 22 years. Joan later worked as a classified department worker for the Daily Record from 1992 t0 2010.

Joan enjoyed cooking and spending time with her cherished grandchildren. In her hay day, she was a great dancer especially jitterbug and an exceptional piano player. She loved to travel to Las Vegas and Italy, take cruises and trips to the casino and play the lottery.

Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard T. D’Ambola, her beloved son, Michael A. D’Ambola, her parents, Michael, and Virginia (nee-Crecca) Petruccelli, her brothers; Guido, Dante and Armando Petruccelli and her sisters, Eva Marino, Norma Giacobbe and Diane Cornacchia.

Survivors include, her devoted daughter Elaine Janus and her husband, Neal and her cherished grandchildren, Anthony and Michelle Janus.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian Burial on Monday, October 18, 2021, at 10:00am at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 179 Baldwin Road, Parsippany. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany. (973)887-3235.
