Michael McCormick, a 41-year resident of Parsippany, NJ (38 of those years in the Sedgefield development) passed away on July 29, 2021, following an extended illness. He was 65 years old. Michael, who was born in Ridgewood on March 13, 1956, grew up in West Milford, where he played varsity football and baseball. He was a 1974 graduate of West Milford High School.

Michael graduated from Montclair State University with a Bachelor’s degree in 1978. In 1985, he earned a Master’s degree in Education Administration from William Paterson University.

Michael began his career in education as a teacher and coach at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, NJ.

Michael was an Assistant Principal of West Milford High School from 1989-1998 and was Principal of West Milford High School from 1998-2005. He retired as the Principal of Marshall Hill Elementary School in West Milford in 2017. A memorable retirement dinner was held in his honor later thar year.

Michael was a member of many professional education organizations over the years and most recently served on the West Milford High School Athletic Hall of Fame Executive Committee.

West Milford was his home away from home, having grown up and worked there for many years. He had the privilege of meeting many wonderful families during his years of employment with the West Milford Board of Education and maintained close friendships with many of his co-workers and former students even into retirement.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, William and Juliann McCormick and his brothers Bill and John.

Michael is survived by his wife of 41 years, Clare, and his sons, Ryan and Tyler.

He is also survived by his sister, Mary Manista (Richard), nephews and nieces Rick Manista and Bill, Kate and Kelly McCormick, his many other family members and Clare’s extended family.

He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle, great-uncle, godfather, brother-in-law and loyal friend who will be missed by many.

Michael’s family would like to thank those members of the medical community who did everything they could to help him as well as the friends and family who were so supportive during a difficult time.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 10:00 am at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, Cedar Knolls. Entombment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Michael’s visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany. Please note, there will be no services on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.
