Obituaries » Karen Patricia (nee-Kelly) Mead

Karen Patricia (nee-Kelly) Mead passed from this life and ascended into Heaven on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 63.

She was born and raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark, NJ until moving to Hanover Township in 1972.

Karen was a loving mother and homemaker who dedicated her life to her family. As her children became school-aged, she returned to work at Endocrine Medical as a medical biller. She spent 15 years there and upon “retiring” began working with her son at Greg’s Fitness, a place she truly loved.

Karen loved her family and friends more than anything. She was an avid reader, walked hundreds of miles with her “walking crew”, spent countless hours at boot camp, and was a master in the kitchen. She loved celebrating holidays, especially Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day, surrounded by her friends and family. Karen enjoyed summer vacations at Long Beach Island, holiday baking with her daughters, soaking up the sun, and in the most recent years, being a Mimi to her four grandchildren. She had an infectious smile that would light up any room and was always the life of the party.

Survivors include her loving husband: Richard; her son: Gregory and his wife, Rosanna; her daughters: Lauren Mead and her fiancé, Peter Beretin; Kayla Weiss and her husband, Patrick; Kelli Protasiewicz and her husband, Justin; her father: Richard C. Kelly and her mother: Helen T. (nee-Murphy) Kelly; her brothers: Jimmy and his wife, Denise, Michael and his wife, Michelle; and her four cherished grandchildren: Richard James “RJ”, Grace, Madelyn, and Jackson. Karen is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 19 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany (973) 887-3235. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian burial at 9:30am on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church: 75 Ridgedale Ave, Cedar Knolls. Cremation: Private.

Following current Covid-19 guidelines, masks and social distancing are required at both the viewing and funeral service. The family acknowledges and understands that many are still uncomfortable to attend public gatherings and will be unable to attend the visitation. We ask that you keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
