Zbigniew Anthony Piotrowski (Tony)
December 16, 1929 – January 18, 2021
Tony passed away peacefully on January 18, 2021 at Whippany. He was 91.
He was born in Poland and was a Holocaust survivor. His complete story was documented by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. His interview can be seen at https://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/irn76713 . On Columbus Day 1948, he escaped Poland while working on the Polish Ship, MS Batory. He lived in NYC where he met his wife, Rita. They married on December 29, 1951 during a snowstorm at St. Clemens Church, NYC. They moved to Whippany in 1957 to start a new life and family.
Tony was a proud veteran of the Korean War and honorably discharged in 1951. He marched in many Memorial Day Parades down Whippany Rd.
Tony graduated from Newark College of Engineering in 1960. He retired from The Engelhard Corporation where he worked for 30 years in Metallurgy Sciences. His contributions to the field were cited by the scientific community, and his publications won awards. Prior to that, he worked at RCA developing traveling wave tubes and thermo-electric devices.
Tony was a member of the American Legion Post 155 in Whippany, the Polish American Club of Whippany and the Hanover Township Seniors Club. He loved to take cruises, winter in FL, play bingo, and drive down to The Tropicana in Atlantic City.
He is predeceased by his parents and siblings: Richard, Stanley, George and Halina.
Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Rita (nee-Piotrowski); his daughter, Rita; his son, Richard and his wife, Mary; & his son, Henry.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered at 9:30a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church. 90 Whippany Rd., Whippany. Interment: Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany.
