Obituaries » Vladimir 'Vlady' Scerbo

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Vladimir Scerbo. Vlady, as he was known to all, went home to be with God on Tuesday, December 22nd 2020. He was 92.

Vlady was born and raised in Boonton before moving to Parsippany in 1952.

Vlady was the dedicated owner and operator of Scerbo Buick and Chevrolet in Boonton from 1941 until retiring in 2006.

He was actively involved in many different organizations. He was a member of Boonton Chamber of Commerce, the Boonton Lions Club, the Parsippany Elks Lodge No. 2078, the Knights of Columbus, the Morris County Auto Dealers Association, the NJ Auto Dealers Association/NJ Car, the South Boonton Field Club as well as being an Honorary Life Member of the NJ State PBA.

He was a devout catholic sharing 50 years with his church community at St. Christopher R.C. Church where he enjoyed being an usher at the 5 o’clock mass on Saturdays.

Vlady was also an active member of the Rockaway River Country Club where he enjoyed friendship and many rounds of golf. He played in many prestigious golf tournaments including the Westchester Pro Am and golfed with many notable golfers including Joe DiMaggio and Davis Love III.

Vlady was one of the most lovable people you could ever want to meet. He could honestly make friends wherever he went. If you need something, Vlady was there to help. The old saying – he would give you the shirt off his back might have started with Vlady!

To know Vlady was to know his smile and his laugh. Vlady had the kind of smile that could brighten any room he walked into. He was always ready for a good party and enjoyed socializing with his family and friends.

He was pre-deceased by his dear sister, Frasia Scerbo.

Vlady and his beautiful bride, Gilda ‘Jill’ celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last year and to hear Vlady speak at the party was to hear the love he had for his beautiful bride. He will be great missed by his beloved wife, Jill as well as his family, including his 3 sons, Thomas and his wife, Linda, Dr. James and his wife, Elizabeth, Robert and Carol; his daughter, Marianne Longchamp and her partner, Edward Yuhas; his 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Vlady will also be remembered lovingly by his extended family and friends.

Arrangements are private under the direction of the Par-Troy Funeral Home. In Lieu of Flowers, please make donations in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000 (Dept. 300), Memphis, TN 38148.
