Deogracias T. Tantay passed away from complications related to COVID-19 on Sunday November 8, 2020 at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. He was 79.

He was born in Pangasinan, Philippines. Deo moved to Smooth Rock, Canada in 1967, and then emigrated to Fort Arthur, TX in 1969. Deo lived in Parsippany, NJ for 30 years before moving to Rockland County, NY in 2006.

Deo held many roles in his lifetime: a chemical engineer at Texaco, a worker at Famous Amos, and was a floor salesman in the plumbing department for Home Depot in East Hanover, NJ for many years. After he retired, he became a professional Lolo (grandfather) to his three adoring grandchildren. Throughout his life, he was an avid traveler, fisherman, and often volunteered to be “Mr. Fix-It” for many of his friends and family members.

He was an active member of Philippine American Seniors Association of Rockland (PASAR) and served on their Board of Directors. He loved to line dance with their group and had many friends, including his partner, Shirley Rosel. He is fondly remembered by everyone who had met him as generous, funny, and always having a smile on his face.

Deo is pre-deceased by his wife of 34 years, Marylou Lopez Tantay who passed away on November 29, 2002.

Survivors include: his son, Lawrence Jude; his daughter, Theresa Tantay-Wilson, and her husband, Douglas Wilson; and his three grandchildren: Madeleine, Kieran, and Cavin Wilson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service 8:30am Wednesday November 18, 2020 at St. Christopher R.C. Church 1050 Littleton Road, Parsippany. Cremation Private. A live virtual service will also be offered. Arrangements are under the direction of the Par-Troy Funeral Home 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054 – (973) 887-3235.
