Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Florence Turnbull Ordway passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the Foothill Acres Nursing Home in Hillsborough, NJ. She was 94.

Florence was born in Wheeling, WV on November 22, 1925. She was raised in West Paterson, NJ. After her marriage, she and her husband Carl moved to Paterson. In 1965, the family of 5 moved to Parsippany, NJ. Florence and Carl built a retirement home at Penn Estates in East Stroudsburg, PA in the early 80s and moved there permanently after retirement.

Florence was a graduate of Montclair State College with a BS in Chemistry. She met her husband, Carl at a summer program at the University of New Hampshire and were married in December of 1950. She started her teaching career at Central High School in Paterson, NJ and after John F. Kennedy High School was built, she taught there as a Chemistry teacher for over 25 years.

Florence and Carl opened their home to weekly Bible study and they were instrumental in starting the Parsippany Christian Church in 1969, where she taught Sunday School classes, sang in the choir, and played the organ and piano. In 1983, Florence and Carl also became charter members of the Western Hills Christian Church in Tranquility, NJ, where Carl was an elder, and Florence continued to teach classes.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl Lewis Ordway, who passed away in 2015. They were able to celebrate a long and happy marriage of 65 years.

She is survived by her sons: Carl W. & his wife, Denise, of Somerset, NJ; David C. & his wife, Lindsay of Madison, Wisconsin; her daughter, Susan Ordway of Freehold; her grandson: Andrew & his wife, Erin Ordway, and her great-grandchildren: Weston and Sutton Ordway.

Visiting hours will be held at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany (973)887-3235 on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 3:00-6:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service immediately after the viewing at 6:00pm. Interment: Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
