James E. Carney passed away on Friday, August 2nd 2019 at St. Clares Hospital in Denville. He was 94.

James was born in Kearny and grew up in Lyndhurst. He lived in River Edge,Lakehurst, New Milford and Lake Hiawatha before moving to Montville in 1959.

As a Navy Pilot, James proudly served his country in the United States Navy from July 15, 1943 until June 2, 1953 on active duty and then went on to serve in the Navel Reserves until he retired in 1985 with the rank of Commander.

James worked for Singer Kearfott in Little Falls from 1953 until retiring in 1990 as a Contract Specialist.

He was very active in his community. James was a member of the Montville Township League Inc., where he volunteered for over 50 years and was past president. He was a member of the Montville American Legion Post 500 & St. Pius the X R.C. Church as well as its Holy Name Society. James also supported his Catholic Community as a member of the Knights of Columbus Post 3680 in Parsippany. He was a past grand knight and served as past district deputy.
He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Estelle E. (nee-Blessing) who passed away on August 8, 2008.
Survivors include his loving children: Edward J. and his wife, Angie of Sparta, James P. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Richard of Parsippany and Kathleen A. Powalie and her husband, Mark also of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and his cherished grandchildren: Danielle, James, Abigale, Samantha, Madison and Kasey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered at 10:00a.m. on Monday, August 5th 2019 at St. Pius X R.C. Church. 24 Changebridge Road, Montville. Entombment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Par-Troy Funeral Home. 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany.
