Philip J. Melici passed away Sunday September 9, 2018 at Lyon VA Hospital in Bernardsville. He was 95.
He was born and raised in Newark, NJ. Philip lived in Springfield and Davenport, Fl before moving to Parsippany, NJ in 2015.
Philip served our country proudly in World War II during the Normandy Invasion with the United States Army from 4/23/1943 until being honorably discharged on 12/28/1945. Phillip was awarded 4 bronze stars and the French Legion of Honor.
He was a mason for the city of Newark for over 25 plus years before retiring many years ago.
Philip loved the NJ shore and owned a house in Normandy Beach. He was a avid gardener and loved traveling with wife Jaye to Florida. He was very close to his family and he enjoyed watching old Western and War movies and shopping at Walmart. Philip was true “Gentleman‘s Gentleman” and was very proud of his military accomplishments.
He is pre-deceased by his late wife of 60 years: Jennie “Jaye” (nee-Napolitano) who passed away in April of 2009 and his brothers: John & Ross Melici, and Joseph Milici.
Survivors include his brothers: James Melici, Charles, and Vito Milici; his sisters: Carmella Cantagallo and Josephine Orlando; his niece (which Philip & Jaye considered as their daughter): Diane Hickey and her husband Thomas; Philip is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service 11:15am Saturday September 15, 2018 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 225 Ridgedale Ave, East Hanover. Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Par-Troy Funeral 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany (973) 887-3235.
